MSBA Umpire Program
All umpires in Ontario are certified by Baseball Ontario, with local associations such as the Mississauga Southwest Baseball Association guiding umpires through this process.
There is no minimum age requirement to become an umpire. Umpire will require ability to travel to nearby diamonds, as well as their own email address to remain in contact with the Umpire-In-Chief. (Parents can be copied on communications.)
At any age and any level of competition, umpiring is an excellent opportunity to be an vital part of the game. There are many benefits to becoming a certified umpire in Ontario:

2024 Umpire Certification
New Umpires
Register at https://ondeck.baseballontario.com/baseball-ontario-ondeck/register
When creating your profile, select Level 1.1 as your role in the ONDeck system. You will then have access to the Level 1 Getting Started online learning modules and will be able to select a locally hosted Umpire Camp to attend in person. Completion of both the online and in-person components is required for certification in 2024.
If you know your local association is hosting an Umpire Camp but you don’t see it listed yet in ONDeck, please check back soon as we are currently accepting and processing local association camp requests and will add them to the system as they come in.
Payment is made through your local association after having registered with Baseball Ontario.
Returning Level 1 or 2 Umpires
Log in to your OnDeck Profile at https://ondeck.baseballontario.com/
When updating your profile in ONDeck, select the role that is one level higher than your 2023 certification.
Examples:
- A Level 1.1 umpire in 2023 would select the Level 1.2 role
- A Level 1.2 umpire in 2023 would select the Level 2.1 role
- A Level 2.1 umpire in 2023 would select the Level 2.2 role
- A Level 2.2 umpire in 2023 would select the Level 2.3 role
- A Level 2.3 umpire in 2023 would select the Level 3 role. See information below for returning Level 3 umpires.

After updating your profile, you will then have access to the appropriate online Learning Modules for your level, and will be able to select a locally hosted Umpire Camp to attend in-person. Completion of both the online and in-person components is required for certification in 2024. Online Modules available soon.
Payment is made through your local association after having registered with Baseball Ontario.
Umpires can attend any in-person Level 1/2 clinic they wish across Ontario, however MSBA umpires may wish to consider the following options:
- Saturday, February 24th, 12:30pm, St. Francis Xavier Secondary School, 50 Bristol Rd W, Mississauga
- Sunday, February 25th, 9:00am, St. Francis Xavier Secondary School,
50 Bristol Rd W, Mississauga
New or Returning Level 3 Umpires
Log in to your OnDeck Profile at https://ondeck.baseballontario.com/
When updating your profile in ONDeck, select the Level 3 role. Then, click on “Complete Level 3 Umpire” where you will be able to pay your $55.00 certification fee online in ONDeck.
For 2024, new and returning Level 3 umpires will be required to complete three online modules:
- Managing the Line-Up
- Interference and Obstruction (Advanced Approved Rulings)
- Appeal Plays (Advanced Approved Rulings)
Each module should take approximately 15 minutes to complete. Modules will become available on Thursday, February 15th, 2024. There is no in-person event requirement for Level 3 umpires in 2024.

Adam De Caire

Adam De Caire is a Level 5 umpire, and Senior Course Conductor certified by Baseball Canada. Adam has umpired at five Baseball Canada National Championships, and served as a Umpire Supervisor at one championship. In 2022, Adam received an international recommendation from Baseball Canada to be added to the World Baseball Softball Confederation roster of officials for international competition. In addition to his role with MSBA, Adam is a member of the Baseball Ontario Umpires Committee.
